This series of photographs were made during the same time as my collage Autobiography. For these five photographs, I stayed to the themes of multiple faces to one identity and used five models to create them. Judy, Lanny, Mackenzie, Reno, and Campbell were created from interviews I conducted with each model. Through these interviews, many faces were revealed about their identity, and I chose three from each interview to depict.
I understand that through my creative choices, I stray farther from their actual identities, so I look at each piece as a character created from real life inspiration and creative interpretation. Each photograph was made through long exposure photography with a flash bulb to capture each pose.
"A human must be speaking with its own voice (not one of its borrowed voices), expressing its actual desires (not what it imagines that it desires), being for good or ill itself, not any mask.”
